Center for Sexual Expression and Education
Continues Despite Controversy and Setbacks
For Immediate Release
Los Angeles, CA- The main agenda for The Center for Sexual Expression and Education is education. That is why they spent several years developing the Erotic University software that allows students to explore a virtual college campus devoted to sex, with 25 departments for students to explore, and two dozen included interactive classes. It is why they developed their Virtual Classroom software that allows anyone with a camera, a computer, and something interesting to teach about sex.to easily create a downloadable copy-protected interactive class.
Without the freedom of sexual expression, though, education becomes much less useful, and sometimes, not even possible. They know first hand about the limits on sexual expression. For three years, they held classes and events at a downtown Los Angeles studio. This space included a nightclub type area, several rooms for classes, an erotic art gallery, and space for very large events. Here they held their Pleasure Sunday event, which featured vendors, entertainers, and educators such as Dr. Patti Britton, Dr. Ava Cadell, and Dr. Don Etkes, all focused on the importance and value of orgasms. They held dozens of classes, ranging from their popular pole dancing classes to a class taught by a Rabbi and scholar on the meaning of the Adam and Eve stories and sexuality. To celebrate the launch of Erotic University, which includes a Recreation Center celebrating sexually themed games, they hosted a strip poker tournament.
That all came to a quick and unfortunate end, after a raid by the LAPD. They felt that the events held at the facility were a little too unrestrained, despite being open only to consenting adults. The owner of the facility decided to sell and avoid any future hassles.
Until they find a new space, CSEE focuses primarily on their online activities. They offer several sites with an educational agenda. SexinReview.com is a consumer oriented site with information about adult products to help consumers make better buying decisions. SexScienceSkeptic.com is a discussion board focusing on sexual research that is poorly done, falsified, or simply made up to foster a homophobic, anti-choice, or negative sexual agenda. VirginPride.com is a blog by a fictional Melvin Clear, who promotes only slightly exaggerated and humorous versions of typical abstinence-only claims. After each entry, the comments section explains the psychological or scientific misstatements in Melvin’s claims and theories.
They continue to be controversial by embracing a wide spectrum of sexual activities between consenting adults, including open sexuality. According to Director Jeff Booth, “We believe that sexuality is not necessarily a private activity, and we have found through direct experience that there is something very liberating about seeing other people have sex. That is why our Adventurous Couples group takes couples on escorted trips to places such as swing clubs. Along with educating them, we think that seeing others openly having sex demystifies it, makes it something less shameful and secretive. My wife and I have also escorted a lot of sex educators and human sexuality majors to events like this, because it is a unique learning lab on how people behave sexually when they let go of many traditional societal restraints.” This embrace of the non-traditional is also why their Erotic University classes go beyond techniques and biology and includes classes on many different alternative lifestyles.
